We don't know if a rabbit with a pocket clock or a cat with a huge smile and no face will come out but this impressive piece of furniture is sure to draw your attention!
Cabinet of wonders is a bookshelf designed by the talented greek architect and designer eleftherios ambatzis . It was designed to cover the needs for a special place to place a collection of valuable relics and books from various trips to the four corners of the world. The space , in which it was placed combines a European culture of th 18th century with a modern design aesthetic and also contadictory materials.
The goal was the design of the cabinet to not stand by any of these "styles" but to attempt to "marry them unexpectedly".
The project stems from the 18th century and the rokail (meaning rock), from where Rococo was born.
Thus, a large cartouche (abstract plan that is found in Rococo churches in central Europe) was synthesized which was built from natural black granite, which was carved and became the decorative frame of the object.
In the center stands a "grid" with plexiglass shelves, which pierce the granite forcibly transporting the viewer to another dimension and time. For this reason a mirror was placed in the back of the boxes so the furniture gives the impression of the portal, which "sucks" the visitor in a historical, geographical and cultural journey.
dimensions are 280x50x230cm
